We collaborated with Crissy Sutter, a vice president, and bat team leader, from Normandeau Associates`which is one of the nation's largest science based environmental companies. She told us in our interview with her that only 5% of bats that echolocate towards a turbine hit the blade with the sonar click and survive. The other 95% doesn't detect the turbine's blade, so they have a higher mortality rate from getting killed by wind turbines. She told us they were looking for a way to add more blades. They were originally going to turn off the turbines to let the bats pass and then turn them on! Thanks Crissy!

Tim Hayes works at Duke Energy as a Environmental Director. First, he told us about the Identiflight, which is a high resolution digital camera. He also told us about how his company is making turbines slower at night for bats and other nocturnal animals. He then told us that when turbines are slow more bats get killed. Next he helped us develop what sound we should make come out of our speakers (see page 3). Finally he told us some theories of how bats die around wind turbines.
You can contact him below or go to his website above. We appreciate the time he took out of his day to talk to us.
Thanks Tim!

Aditya Patel
Patel was a principal for the day at our school. We talked to him during recess and lunch because he's a engineer at Georgia power and he told us a lot of important info. On thing he told us that helped was he confirmed that many of our things were useful and good. Another thing he talked about is how he engineered a way to stop osprey(eagle type bird, live around ocean and lakes) from building nests and getting stuck in power lines and it actually worked! What he did with his company is he made tons of huge platforms (that didn't annoy anyone) and the ospreys actually used them!
Thanks Mr. Patel! You were awesome!

Cris Hein
Cris Hein is the wind energy director at BCI (bat conservation international). He told us many important things over our "interview" like since some bats camouflage, its harder to identify all the dead bats on the ground. Another reason he told us bats are hard to find on the ground is that a lot of predators get to the dead bats and eat them before we can even get a glimpse of the bat.
Thanks Cris!

Clifford Whitney
Clifford (Cliff) Whitney is a drone expert and owner of Atlanta Hobby (http://www.atlantahobby.com/store/pc/home.asp). He came over to our school and helped us decide which drone we are going to use for our Bat Drone Shield (The Inspire 1). He also let us use the camera on his drone which was very important. Cliff was very helpful and I highly recommend you going to The Atlanta Hobby Store.
Thanks Cliff!
